Court orders Megabus to preserve evidence in Dec. crash

December 29, 2014

An Illinois court is ordering bus and coach company Megabus to preserve evidence related to a crash that happened in Indiana earlier this month.

According to a release from Zimmerman Law Offices, P.C., a Cook County judge ordered the company to preserve and protect the bus and all evidence related to the crash that happened on Dec. 20. The bus was on its way to Atlanta from Chicago when it crashed on Interstate 65 in Seymour.

Dozens of people were hurt but there were no serious injuries. Among the injured was a woman from Georgia, who filed a lawsuit four days after the crash.

The emergency motion was granted on Monday. The court order requires Megabus to preserve the passenger bus, its data and video recorders, maintenance records and other evidence relating to the crash.

Thomas A. Zimmerman Jr., of Zimmerman Law, says the protective order was entered so evidence cannot be altered.

Zimmerman Law also filed a suit on behalf of eight people on a Megabus that crashed in Indiana in October.

In that suit, the passengers claim the company knew their bus was having mechanical problems, but didn’t take it out of service.
