Passenger Sues Megabus After Crash In Indiana

December 28, 2014

A Georgia resident is suing Megabus after a bus leaving from Chicago to Atlanta crashed in Indiana earlier this month.

Dyrell Lee, a passenger on the bus that crashed, said she sustained “personal injuries, financial damages and subsequent medical expenses” as a result of the crash, according to the lawsuit. Lee was on the way to her home in Hampton, Ga.

The bus rolled over at about 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 20 on Interstate 65 near Seymour, Ind. Passengers reported minor injuries, but none of them were life-threatening.

There was snow on the ground at the time of the crash, and Lee’s lawyer is claiming these conditions were unsafe.

“Passengers observed that the bus was traveling too fast for the slippery road conditions,” Thomas A. Zimmerman, Jr., Lee’s lawyer, said in a statement. “We suspect that the driver’s excessive speed contributed to the crash.”

Lee and her lawyer are also seeking an emergency preservation order to preserve evidence from the crash, including the Megabus vehicle itself.

This is not the first time passengers have sued Megabus. At least eight passengers sued them in October after a bus crashed on the same interstate outside of Indianapolis. Megabus was also sued in 2012 after one of its buses slammed into a bridge pillar along a southern Illinois freeway.
