Four passengers file lawsuits after Chicago-bound Megabus crashes in Indiana

One day after a Megabus bound for Chicago crashed on Interstate 65 in Greenwood, injuring dozens of passengers, four passengers filed a lawsuit against the bus company and its subsidiaries.

The plaintiffs in the case were passengers on their way home from the Chicago Bears win against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

The bus carrying 56 passengers overturned after striking the rear end of a car. Police said the driver of that car, 22-year-old Logan Thompson, veered off the road “due to driver inattention.”
The passengers filing the lawsuits claim they suffered personal injuries, financial damages and medical expenses.

“It’s a very traumatic event for them to wake up from a sleep having the bus turn over, you’re face-down in broken glass and you have bodies flying down on top of you, causing physical injury,” the plaintiffs’ attorney, Tom Zimmerman, told WGN-TV, our sister station in Chicago.
According to complaints filed, the passengers said the Megabus driver announced the bus had faulty windshield wipers and was driving too fast for the rainy conditions.

“In this case, it has been reported from passengers that the bus driver complained that the windshield wipers were not operating and that it was difficult to see the road in the rain,” Zimmerman said. “We suspect that that was a cause in this crash.”

The lawsuit seeks at least $50,000 in damages.
