Gamers are suing Niantic over Pokemon GO Fest – NintendoToday

John Kinsley

Jul 28th, 2017

Last week’s Pokemon GO Fest was a disaster for the company, with its servers being down and players not being able to play the game they traveled to Chicago to play with others.

Niantic did the only thing they could: they refunded everyone their money, and they apologized to fans with $100 worth of in-game credits. Not a bad apology, but a lot of people spend a lot of money traveling to Chicago and paid for hotels etc.

Some of those people are now suing developer Niantic to get their plane tickets refunded. Here’s what the lawyer, Thomas Zimmerman, who is representing one of the attendees, said:

“Niantic is not offering to refund people’s travel expenses for coming to Chicago. Most of the people came from out of state, many people from other countries — I talked to someone who flew in from Japan.”

Zimmerman confirmed that since he filed the original suit, about 20-30 people have joined in. Niantic has released a brief statement, simply saying:

“Niantic does not comment on pending legal matters.”
