Thomas A. Zimmerman, Jr. is a litigator who handles State and Federal Civil Litigation, Administrative Law, and Appellate Work in State and Federal Courts. He is a shareholder at Stern Holstein Zimmerman & Hanson, P.C. At only 34, Mr. Zimmerman has established himself as a skilled litigator and a zealous advocate for his clients. Mr. Zimmerman has a unique background having graduated from college with a BS in Computer Science-Mathematics and an MBA with a concentration in finance. He worked for AT&T where he developed voice and data networking solutions and negotiated joint ventures. Thereafter, Mr. Zimmerman received his J.D. and began working as an attorney handling both plaintiff's and defense litigation. He is currently the Court appointed co-lead class counsel for the entire class of business and residential customers affected by the summer power outages. He has handled numerous class action and plaintiff personal injury cases where he obtained multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements, including cases involving brain damaged babies brought against multiple parties and a wrongful death trial brought against a hospital and doctors. A nominator familiar with one case said, "I witnessed Tom conduct trial examination and cross examination and argue motions before the trial judge. I believe that Mr. Zimmerman's tenacity and quality greatly contributed to the ultimate settlement of the wrongful death case during trial." Another nominator speaking on another case said, "I believe that Tom's thorough and comprehensive efforts were the main reason the case settled. He is truly an outstanding attorney."

Verdicts & Settlements

Mother Loses Child Custody and Visitation — Following a lengthy trial to determine the best interests of the children, a mother going through a divorce lost custody of her children to her husband and she was also denied any visitation with her minor children. We were retained after the trial to appeal the decision. We successfully appealed the trial court's decision denying visitation by demonstrating that visitation would not endanger the children's physical, mental, moral or emotional health, and the appellate court ordered the trial court to fashion appropriate visitation. In this matter, we also filed a petition for a writ of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court on the issue of whether a state court rule violates the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment where the rule precludes the court from exercising its discretion, in the interest of fundamental fairness, to allow an untimely appeal from a court order terminating a parent's liberty interest to the care and custody of her children.
